Philips portable DVD player docks with iPod

Practically everyone in the world has an iPod. Well, this statement is not exactly true since there are still some folks in the Sahara and the Arctic who have been left out, but Steve has promised to reach out to them at the earliest.

The popularity of the iPod has been unprecedented, primarily due to its classy design, and you can pretty well carry your entire media library on it. However, when it comes to watching videos on it, the small screen size sucks, making it a not-so-exciting experience. Seems like the guys at Philips were thinking along the same lines when they conceptualized the DCP850. This portable DVD player from Philips aims to carry forward their success in this growing segment with the big feature being touted as iPod integration. Dock your iPod to it and enjoy all your favourite videos on the 8.5' widescreen LCD display. Combined with the dolby digital speakers, this can turn out to be quite a good entertainment option for those long journeys.

If you're wondering what the big fuss about the iPod integration is all about, and only care about playing your regular DVDs and CDs, you can relax. The player plays almost all media formats that are out there (DVD R/-R, CD-R/-RW, MP3, DivX) and reads out movies and photos from SD cards too. The battery life is not so great, with the specs marking it at 2.5 hours. Charging on the move is easy though, with the AC and car adapters.

Clearly, Philips wants to ride on the iPod success story and the gamble may just pay off given that they seem to have gotten the feature set and pricing right. Available for $199.99"
